We are very happy to announce the availability of our 3GS iPhone app as a open source project (working under the Apache license). Developers may find our source on Github

With the free availability of our source code and the documentation of our open API we offer the ability to easily integrate the full functionality of Mov.io to to every matching application. Reaching from Twitter clients to movie capturing or editing tools.

How to upload a movie from your iPhone via email

We are still waiting for Apple to finally approve our iPhone 3GS app, so you can download it from iTunes. In the meantime we would like to encourage you, to make use of some of the existing features, we already have in place, to upload your movies to Mov.io.

Today I would like to show you, how to get use the email upload on your iPhone - this should work for mostly all other mobile devices that are capable of capturing videos and sending our emails.

Step 1: Connect Mov.io with Twitter.

Simply hit the "Login with Twitter" button on our homepage.

Step 2: Authorize connection with Twitter

Step 3: Go to the "Upload" section on Mov.io

Choose "E-Mail a movie" and find your individual email adress

Step 4: Take a movie with your iPhone or choose an existing one.

Step 5: Mail it to this email adress, simply add your tweet as subject line.

That´s it. Your movie is online within seconds. Once you save your special email adress to your mobiles phonebook, you will be able to upload new movies with ease.

Does that work for you? Do you have any ideas or recommendations for us?

(Please note: The shown email will for obvious reasons not work).

Mov.io is online now

Yesterday night we took away the password protection and presented our latest release to a big community of active Twitter users in Hamburg. So we are now officially online, even though we still have to wait for Apple to release our iPhone 3GS App to the App Store.

We are very much anticipating your feedback about this latest version. Feel free to send us comments to all bugs you might discover directly to beta@mov.io - or simply reply to this post.

Thank you,

Oliver & Oliver

Betatest our iPhone 3GS Application

Our final release of the iPhone app for the 3GS is beeing checked by the Apple Team these days. Since we all know, this might take from a couple of days to several weeks, we would like to invite you, to betatest our App in the meantime. How does this work?

Simply follow these three easy steps:

1. Find your iPhone UDID

Each iPhone or iPod Touch has a Unique Device Identifier (UDID), which is a sequence of 40 letters and numbers that is specific to your device. It’s like a serial number but much harder to guess. It will look something like this: 2b6f0cc904d137be2e1730235f5664094b831186.

You can easily get it from within your iTunes installation, check this site for a detailed description.

2. Send us your UDID

Simply drop as an email at beta@mov.io, include your UDID, your email adress and your Twitter username.

3. Install Mov.io Beta

We will send you a zip file, containing the app and a mobile provisioning file. Just drop both items on your iTunes programm symbol and it will be installed on your iPhone 3GS. Now all you need to do is enter your Twitter Username and Password, and you are ready to upload your movies to Mov.io.

iPhone App is on its way to the AppStore

Today we finally submitted our iPhone 3GS App into Apples iTunes approval process. Right now it seems to take between 2 and 3 weeks, to get new products into the Appstore. We will keep you updated on the progress.

But more important: What can you do with the application?

It uses either the built in video camera in your iPhone 3GS to capture a video right away or gives you access to all the movies on your library. Choose or capture a file and our application will upload it to the Mov.io plattform.  The text you enter will be tweeted, once the rendering and encoding of the movie has been processed. This takes about 30 to 45 seconds in general. Than your movie is online and a link to it will be added to your tweet. Of course, all movies you capture using our application will be stored on your iPhone, so in the unlikely case of any transmission error, you still have a copy on file.

Keep your fingers crossed, that we will soon be able to provide you a link to download and install the app on your iPhone 3GS.

On the finishing line

The final 10% are always the hardest. Why should it be any different for us?

We feel like beeing on the finishing line for a couple of weeks now.
But today we seem to be leaving the last corner.
The list with bugs and open issues still contains of a couple of
points - but it was never that short.

Anyhow, except some smaller things that need to be fixed, it is only
one big element waiting to be release for version 0.1 - and we still
try to launch sometime next week. Keep your finges crossed!!
